Virtual-core instrumentation in endodontics
Engine-driven nickel-titanium instruments are very attractive as they have considerably simplified the clinical shaping procedure and allowed shaping of most canals in record time.
Unfortunately, they have also contributed to overshadow fundamental aspects of the cleaning procedure, as well of bringing up several issues of their own that seldom occur during manual shaping techniques. Furthermore, instrument design also impacts significantly the cleaning procedure which is why understanding and using engine-driven instruments properly is key in making the most out of them and improving clinical performance. This presentation will focus on the optimal use of the virtual core design in daily clinics.
Key points:
1- Redefine the leading objectives of the endodontic treatment
2- Identify potential issues induced by core-bearing instruments
3- Recognize potential advantages of virtual core designs
4- Execute optimal cleaning protocols to maximize clinical success
